Man rescues bear from milk can

One black bear has found the contents of an abandoned metal milk jug to be anything but just right, with a resident having to rescue the confused creature with the aid of a backhoe.

Video posted to YouTube by user  Vern Styles shows a man trundling towards the creature on a mechanical backhoe in rural Wisconsin, USA. The confused bear has its head jammed into a large metal milk jug, and is wandering blindly in the middle of a field.

The lumberjack gently lowers the backhoe tool to grasp the milk jug, and after a couple of aborted attempts, manages to free the bear, who runs off.

Black bears are common in the northern parts of the sparsely populated state – there is an estimated population of 40,000 of them according to the state's Department of Natural Resources.

An expanding bear population has seen human-bear encounters become more common in recent years.
