Man jailed for pouring hot sauce on puppy

A US man will spend one year behind bars for dousing his girlfriend's puppy in hot sauce.

Ephrian Myles, 47, decided to pour the sauce all over Gizmo, the three-month-old Dachshund-Chihuahua mix, because it annoyed him.

The burning sauce ended up searing the puppy's eyes and throat.

Gizmo's previous owner, understood to be Myles' girlfriend, rushed the puppy to the nearby fire station because it was having trouble breathing and could not open eyes which had swelled up.

The hot sauce was washed off the puppy and it was treated for neurological problems.

Veterinarians believe the puppy — who has a history of seizures — had the neurological issues prior to the hot sauce incident.

Along with the jail time, Myles is also required to complete an anger management course. He cannot own a pet or reside in a home with animals and cannot have contact with the dog's previous owner.

"It was a good resolution," Assistant State Attorney Dan Yuter told the Herald Tribune.

“I'm just glad the dog was OK and the guy went to jail."

Gizmo has since been adopted out.
