A man has died after falling into a frozen lake while trying to rescue his pet dog in the UK.

The man, believed to be aged in his 60s, was pulled from the water at Danson Park, South East London, on Wednesday afternoon (local time).

It is understood he was trying to help his stranded dog when he fell through the iced over lake.

BBC reports the man was taken to a hospital in a critical condition, and later died.

His dog was rescued by a boat, the London Fire Brigade said.

The incident comes as London, and parts of Europe, continue to be rocked by days of brutally cold temperatures and winds in what has been dubbed the “Beast from the East”.
