Terrifying videos emerge after multiple tornadoes touch down near New Orleans

Tornadoes have been filmed tearing through suburban New Orleans, as a series of thunderstorms swept the region.

Video captured by bystanders shows a large funnel moving through the city’s east, damaging buildings and flinging debris into the air.

Another video shows a tornado sweeping through urban streets, triggering what appears to be an electrical explosion.

A third reveals the moment fierce winds tore the roof from one building and caused a neighbouring semi-trailer truck to flip.

At least seven separate tornadoes have been reported in east New Orleans and the towns of Killian and Donaldsville, local publication The Advocate reports.

The tornadoes together with accompanying thunderstorms, heavy hail and wind have brought down powerlines and trees, damaging buildings and cars across the region.

More than 10,000 homes have been left without power, The Time-Picayune reports.

At least 2.7 million people across Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama remain at risk of severe weather today as a fierce weather system continues to move across the South, The Advocate has reported the Oklahoma-based Storm Prediction Center as saying.
