Magician plunges 7m after attempting to climb ceiling
A magician attempting to monkey-bar his way across a 7m-high ceiling has crashed onto a marble floor after his ‘drunken’ stunt at a magic convention came undone.
Arron Jones, 23, filmed the man’s fall after his antics attracted a crowd at the Blackpool Magic Convention in the UK, the largest of its kind in the world.
The magician, who is believed to have been drinking, is seen swinging between the rafters of the arched ceiling, as onlookers anticipate the worst.
“All of a sudden I saw this guy start to shimmy up on one of the pillars to the roof. I was just stood there thinking 'what is this idiot doing?’,” Mr Jones told the Daily Mail.
“I heard he had been drinking but I don't know why he decided to go up there. The bouncers came out and were shouting at him to get down but he just told them 'no' and carried on going.”
After managing to scale more than half the building, the man attempts to turn around before he loses his grip and falls to the ground.
Mr Jones said he let out a “visceral” scream as he watched the man fall.
“As he hit the ground there was a loud thud. We all thought he was dead,” he said.
“He could have broken his neck of his spine. He is so lucky to be alive. I think he got away with just a broken arm and hip.”
The magician remains in hospital and is said to have received a lifetime ban from the magic convention.
