Man surrenders after standoff with police

A man who led police on a high-speed chase through suburban Los Angeles has surrounded after barricading himself inside a home with an assault rifle.

Police fired tear gas into the North Hollywood residence where the man was holed up, forcing him to retreat to the backyard where he lay on the ground with his hands over his head.

A group of eight SWAT officers then rushed the man, cuffing and restraining him.

The man was suspected of making what police described as "terrorist threats" to his former girlfriend a few days earlier.

An arrest warrant was issued for the man and when he was spotted outside the woman's home early this morning police pursued him.

The man immediately hit the road, leading officers on a wild chase through suburban LA, forcing the evacuation of several school, before entering the house where the four-hour standoff took place.
