Judge orders woman to be pepper sprayed in court

A US judge has ordered a woman to be pepper sprayed in court by the man she attacked and her punishment filmed.

Diamond Gaston, from Ohio, was being sentenced on Thursday for pepper spraying a relative in the face while he was working at a Burger King.

In delivering his sentence, Judge Michael Cicconetti gave Gaston the choice between going to jail or allowing her relative to pepper spray her back.

Gaston chose the “eye for an eye” option, but the unusual punishment turned out to have an interesting twist.

Unbeknownst to Gaston, the pepper spray shot at her in court was actually a harmless saline mixture, which Judge Cicconetti had tested on his own face before court.

Cicconetti told ABC News that he just wanted to scare Gaston.

“It was a family-feud type situation at a Burger King, and the victim ended up losing five hours of work that day he got pepper-sprayed,” Judge Cicconetti said.

“I like to give the victims a feeling of vengeance.”

Judge Cicconetti is known for delivering unusual sentences, and has in the past ordered a drunken driver to view bodies of car crash victims in the morgue and made a woman walk 50km because she didn't pay her taxi fare.
