Jay Leno walks away unscathed from car stunt gone awry

US television host Jay Leno has escaped a driving stunt unscathed after the car he was a travelling in flipped during the filming of his new TV show.

Leno, 66, was filming a scene for Jay Leno's Garage when veteran stunt driver Bob Riggle, 80, lost control of the vehicle.

The pair were attempting to perform 'wheel stands' - where a vehicle's two front wheels are lifted off the ground - a trick which Leno, a car enthusiast, said, "had been on my bucket list ever since I was a kid."

But the stunt went awry when the car flipped and rolled at least four times.

However modern safety equipment fitted in the vintage Plymouth Barracuda vehicle meant both men walked away unharmed.

Leno appeared so unscathed that he even cracked a joke about the standard protocol concussion check by medics at California's Irwindale Speedway.

This is only the second time Mr Riggle has been involved in an incident of this nature during his 50 year career as a stunt driver.
