Donald Trump's daughter Ivanka has drawn mockery and scorn online after tweeting an article from her own website advising how to get by as an unpaid intern.

The article, written by an unpaid intern named Quincy Bulin, offers advice like "setting a budget" and "saving up during the school year".

Ms Trump tweeted the article yesterday accompanied with the hashtag #nomoneynoproblems.

Bulin reveals she is spending her third summer on a break from college doing an unpaid internship in New York, but her list of advice does not seem to come close to addressing how to make rent in one of the world's most expensive cities.

The reaction from Twitter users was not kind.

Opinion writers did not mince their words either.

"Failing to compensate your interns when your company centres on female empowerment, on paradigms for a freer, more creative office, and on professional self-respect looks awful, because it is," Katy Waldman from Slate wrote.

"How can she allow her website to dispense advice on surviving unpaid internships when she works for her daddy?"

Haley Henschel from The Fab Gab said Ivanka's tweet proves she lives in a bubble.

"First, it's probably pretty easy for someone like Ivanka to live by the hashtag #nomoneynoproblems when you're a millionaire and you've got a dad who's worth a few billions himself to fall back on in case of emergency," she wrote.

"When your net worth is a cool $150 million, we would bet it's pretty easy to sing high praises of the experience that unpaid internships sometimes provide."

Unpaid internships are becoming increasingly common in the USA, where college students and recent graduates work for free in the hopes of getting full-time work.

Both Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump have unpaid interns as part of their presidential campaigns.
