Islamic State shows off new grandpa recruit

A gun-toting 80-year-old Chinese man has become the latest face of Islamic State propaganda after forcing his family to leave their home to fight alongside the terrorist group in Syria.

Muhammed Amin is thought to be a member of China's Muslim Uighur minority, and originally from the northwest province region of Xinjiang, near the border with Kazakhstan, The Shanghaiist reports.

In a polished propaganda video shot deep in ISIL territory and uploaded earlier this week, Amin said he was drawn to jihad after his son died fighting in Syria.

"I was subjected to oppression at the hands of the Chinese for 60 years," he said while clutching an AK-47 rifle.

"When I saw my son killed alongside the Mujahidin, I resolved to fight, accompanied by my four grandsons, my daughter and my wife."

After linking up with the terrorist group in Syria, Amin said he enrolled in a training camp.

"I crawled, I ran and I rolled," he said.

"I did almost everything and ended training camp well. After receiving a weapon I asked to participate in battle, but I didn't get permission so I am presently in ribat (base)."

He then boasts that he is now able to walk more than two kilometres, amongst scenes of Amin operating artillery controls.

The video appears to be a message to the Chinese government, which has long feared Uighurs are travelling to Syria and Iraq to join Islamic State and then return back home to plan attacks against authorities in Xinjiang.
