ISIL militants are edging closer to a victory in Kobane, with the terror group now in control of 40 percent of the Syrian city.

ISIL has now seized the headquarters of the Kurdish forces as their brutal fight intensifies by the hour.

Coalition jets have pounded targets in the key battleground, where ISIL killers are now making their advance.

Almost half a million people once called this place home; homes now lost in a blackened landscape of fire and smoke, where the lucky ones got out alive.

The United Nations fears more civilians will be murdered if Kobane is conquered, comparing the crisis to the Srebenica massacre, where thousands in Bosnia were slaughtered by Serbs in 1995.

Minority groups like the Yazidis are prime targets of ISIL.

In Turkey, there's growing anger about the country's refusal to help the Kurdish Peshmerga.

The government has refused to send in troops to help fight the ISIL onslaught.
