Dog stayed with man who fell into ditch and helped police find him

A man’s dog stayed by his side when he fell into a ditch - and helped police find him.

The pet pooch was also snapped sitting outside the ambulance as his owner was taken to hospital, refusing to let its owner out of sight.

The accident happened in Ireland after the pair were out for a walk in a town south west of Dublin.

Irish police, who are called Gardaí, tweeted: “Man's best friend. Elderly man out walking his dog last night near Portarlington fell into the ditch & couldn’t get out.

“Jack the dog stayed by his side & showed Gardaí where he was.

“Even when ambulance arrived Jack wouldn’t rest unless he could see him! Owner and Jack home now.”

The story delighted social media readers.
