Japanese prank turns sleeping man into rocket

So, in case we didn't already know, the Japanese have a penchant for incredibly; elaborate pranks - the kind of pranks that include propelling a man who is cuddled up in his bed, into the sky. Bed and all.

The above prank in question appeared on a Japanese television special Dokkiri Award ( means 'being surprised') and features comedian, Toshiaki Kasuga , who apparently had no idea he was about to become the butt of the joke.

In a radio interview, Kasuga claimed that he was lured to the base of Mt. Fuji for work early the next morning.

Given the night was so cold, Kasuga decided to do what anyone stuck at the base of a mountain in minus degree temperatures, and went out to get drunk with the crew.

A few hours later, a very hungover Kasuga said he was woken up by fireworks going off under the bed.

Kasuga said he was about to get up but instead found himself rocked 50 metres into the air.

But don't worry, Kasuga was strapped nice and tightly into the bed.

It's certainly not the first time Japan has shocked and scared the rest of the world with its pranks.

At last count, there were least a dozen shows devoted to pranks circulating on Japanese TV, running pranks that include sending robot controlled dinosaurs into work places, and rolling giant snowballs down a popular ski resort.

Meantime, questions are now being asked as to how the show managed to 'trick' Kasuga in the first place.

Considering two large cranes had to be position right next to Kasuga, it seems odd that the comedian wouldn't at least suspect that something was 'up' after retiring to his cabin the night before.
