Impressive Swincar E-Spider conquers incredibly challenging terrain

Motoring journalists around the world are hailing the oddball, French-made Swincar E-Spider as the world's most effective all-terrain vehicle.

Impressive footage of the strange car effortlessly and silently 'spidering' itself across all kinds of unforgiving and undulating terrain certainly seems to back up such lofty claims.

The Swincar is an offroad, electric 4x4, with two major design achievements that enable the vehicle to produce such efficient and effective movement.

The French engineering team has built an electric motor in each wheel, and this works in tandem with a unique suspension system, the BBC reports.

Each electrically powered wheel is fixed to its own independent suspension, which ensure all four wheels are in contact with the ground at all times.

Critically, the cockpit is suspended, which allows the driver to remain upright and perfectly balanced no matter the angle of the vehicle; think along the lines of a pendulum.

The manufacturers of the Swincar claim the vehicle can successfully travel up and down 70 percent grades, and move across grades of 50 percent.

It may not be the prettiest-looking car in the world, but beauty counts for nothing in the world of all-terrain.
