Impatient Russian driver causes high speed collision on icy motorway

A Russian driver's attempts to overtake a truck on an icy rural road have resulted in a high speed collision with an oncoming car.

Dashcam footage of the accident taken last week in the Drozhzhanovsky District in Tatarstan, Russia shows a driver heading west on a snow covered motorway.

Ahead in the distance an oncoming car with its headlights on can be seen change lanes as it attempts to overtake a truck.

Despite an opening in the traffic, the driver fails to merge back into his lane and remains on a collision course with the camera-fitted vehicle.

A gasp from both the male driver and his female passenger is all that can be heard before the two cars collide with one another, bringing other traffic to an abrupt standstill.

The driver who caused the accident can be seen exiting his vehicle to inspect the extensive damage.
