Hundreds of Chinese spectators eager to see a tidal wave up close have been unexpectedly swept off their feet.
The stunned onlookers were standing on the banks of the Qiantang River in Hangzhou, China on Wednesday to witness a tidal bore - a strong tide that pushes up against the river causing a massive tidal wave, US network ABC News reports.
The tidal bore along the Qiantang River, which is the largest of its kind in the world, usually falls on the 18th day of the 18th month of the Chinese Lunar Calendar.
But with extra power from a supermoon on Wednesday, the wave washed over onlookers, drenching the crowd and sending them fleeing.
There were no reports of any deaths, but photos showed that some of the spectators were injured.
