A car parking spot in an exclusive Hong Kong suburb sold for more than $1.7 million, reports say.

Developers sold several parking spots on The Peak, overlooking Victoria Harbour in the territory, with one fetching $1.7 million, the South China Morning Post reports.

They were part of the Mount Nicholson residential complex, which includes 19 garden houses and 48 apartments, co-built by Wharf Holdings and Nan Fung Group.

"It is definitely the most expensive car parking spot in Hong Kong," William Lau, a sales director at Centaline Property Agency's branch, said.

Hong Kong, which is among the most expensive property markets in the world due to a housing shortage, also has a major shortage of car parks.

In September 2019, a businessman sold a 12.5sq/m car park space for $1.2 million, near the Hong Kong central business district.

And a car space in front of a Kowloon luxury apartment building fetched more than $990,000 in 2018.
