Artefacts looted by Islamic State recovered in Spain

Spanish police have recovered artefacts of significant historical importance which had been looted by Islamic State in Libya.

Following the seizure, two experts in historical artwork, both aged 31, were arrested in Barcelona, reports BBC. 

The pair is suspected to have obtained the objects through groups linked to the Islamic State before selling them.

The artefacts are thought to have been smuggled through the Middle East and Asia to conceal their origin.

The pair face charges of membership in a criminal organisation, document falsification, smuggling and financing terrorism.
