Hayne impresses coaches in training stint

Jarryd Hayne has received a glowing assessment just days before he reports to the San Francisco 49ers.

The former Parramatta Eels NRL star was praised for his work ethic and soft hands following his recent training stint in Arizona with 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick and other members of the NFL team.

"He took coaching from anyone and everyone he could," Dennis Gile, a coach at the EXOS performance centre in Arizona, said of Hayne, the Sacramento Bee reported.

"He was a humble, hard-working guy."

The 49ers will be taking a close look at Hayne's skills and potential for the NFL when he arrives at the team's Santa Clara facility on Tuesday for the first day of their offseason program.

Hayne has said running back or punt returner could be potential positions, but with his speed, strength and ability to catch the ball wide receiver could also be a possibility.

Another NFL star in Arizona was New York Giants receiver Odell Beckham Jr who became a sensation in the 2014-15 season for his acrobatic one-handed catches.

Gile said Hayne and the other NFL players at his facility had fun attempting Beckham-style catches.

"He was OK at that," Gile said.

No one can catch the ball like (Beckham), but Jarryd was coming along pretty well."

Hayne has signed a three-year undrafted free agent deal with the 49ers and just $US100,000 is guaranteed.

He will have 15 to 20 weeks to impress the 49ers and is considered a longshot to make the 49ers' roster for the 2015-16 season.
