Ringleader of England's biggest ever burglary given more jail time

One of the men behind the Hatton Garden raid in London which stole some $24.6 million of goods has been slapped with more jail time after failing to pay his $11m confiscation order.

Daniel Jones, 63, has been sentences to a further six years and 287 days behind bars for failing to pay back £6,599,021 (AU$11,609,070), the BBC reports.

He was part of the gang that drilled into a vault at London’s Hatton Garden Safe Deposit in Easter 2015, stealing some £14m (AU$24.6m) of goods.

Jones was originally jailed for seven years in March 2016 after admitting conspiracy to commit burglary and in January he and three other men were ordered to pay a combined £6,396,273 (AU$6,396,273) after it was found they benefited from an estimated £13.69m worth of stolen cash, gold and gems.

They were also ordered to pay extra depending on their personal circumstances.

The brazen raid is known as the “largest burglary in English legal history”, with two thirds of the valuables stolen believed to still be at large.
