Group escape bus caught in flash flood

A busload of people almost became the latest victims of a Himalayan highway touted as one of the most dangerous in the world when they narrowly avoided being washed away by a flash flood.

The minibus was travelling along the Karakoram Highway in Pakistan when it was smashed by a raging torrent brought on by torrential rains.

Most of the group struggle out of the vehicle just before it crashed onto its side, but one man was stuck inside.

Footage of the drama shows him managing to crawl out of a window as others risk their lives to come to his aid.

The Karakorum Highway connects China and Pakistan across the Karakoram mountain range and is one of the world's highest highways.

It was ranked by CNN as the fourth most dangerous road in the world in 2011 due to its elevation, poor road quality and vulnerability to landslides and floods.

At least 25 people died after a landslide in the region last week, brought on by flooding, Pakistani website DuyaNews reports.
