A Canadian groom has reduced his wedding guests to tears after surprising his Indian bride by singing her a popular Bollywood love song during their reception.

It took Frank Gregoire six weeks to learn the lyrics and piano chords to “Tum Hi Ho”, a song from the 2013 movie Aashiqui 2 about appreciating your one true love and not wanting to face life without them, the Huffington Post reports.

“My heart sank when I first heard him sing in Hindi,” bride Simran Malhotra told Huffington Post Canada.

"The only thing I was thinking was, 'How did he manage to do this?' I was the only one at the reception who knows how hard he truly works."

Ms Malhotra’s mother recommended the song to Mr Gregoire, who was considering writing a song or poem.

“Once I read the translation, I realised I couldn't have found anything more perfect to express my feelings to her," Mr Gregoire said.

The groom sang in front of 130 of the couple’s closest family and friends.

A critical care physician from Sherbrooke, Quebec, Mr Gregoire met his wife, from Toronto, in Baltimore in 2012 when she was beginning her medical residency.
