More than 70 teenagers have flocked to the home of a great-grandmother in Canada, bearing gifts and cards, to show their appreciation for her on Valentine’s Day.

British Columbia resident Tinney Davidson, 86, has tirelessly waved and smiled at students from the window of her home as they walked to school each morning for nine years.

“I was just enthused by them. They’re just wonderful children. They just make me feel so good,” Ms Davidson told CBC news.

On Valentine’s Day, students from neighbouring schools, each carrying a valentine, showed up to the octogenarian’s front yard to give back some of the love.

Along with the handmade cards inscribed with messages of love, the students also lined up to give a tearful Ms Davidson cookies and hugs and decorated her lawn with pink and red heart-shaped cards.

“I was shocked. They kept coming and coming and I just could not believe what I was seeing,” she said, adding that the youths told her she was “wonderful and amazing”.

Davidson, who lives alone, said visits from her family and the children in the neighbourhood make her the “luckiest lady alive”.

“Well, I think I’m just the luckiest lady alive, really and truly. I have so much joy from them.”
