Garbo sacked for shoveling snow from the kerb
It was one kind gesture intended to pay tribute to another, but this Facebook video of a rubbish collector shoveling snow has ended with a scam being exposed and a sacking.
On Monday morning Anna O'Sullivan filmed a local garbo shoveling snow from the footpath in front of her home in Milton, Canada.
The video was posted to Facebook so Ms O'Sullivan could show her gratitude to the man seemingly going above and beyond the call of duty.
But the rubbish collector was promptly sacked for his actions, with the video appearing to expose a scam to get more money for the business.
The company, Miller Waste Systems, is paid by the local council for the weight of the rubbish collected. By shoveling snow into the truck, the garbo is adding extra kilograms to the collection numbers.
"It’s absolutely inappropriate, and we've taken it very seriously," council commissioner of public works Jim Harnum told the Milton Canadian Champion.
"We've been working with Miller for many years and never had an incident like this.
"We think this was just a rogue employee who took it upon himself to try to help the bottom line of this company."
The council is now investigating the truck for any further anomalies.
