Extreme tightrope walker breaks record in France

Extreme tightrope walker Nathan Paulin has broken the world slackline record by crossing a rope suspended from the Eiffel Tower to the Trocadero Square over the River Seine in Paris, France.

Paulin crossed the 70m high tightrope as part of a live TV show for charity, French media reports.

Attached to a harness, Paulin crossed the 670 metre tightrope, beating his own world record of 662 metres when he crossed a Highline at Cirque de Navacelles in the south of France.

The new record is the longest ever crossing made in an urban area.

The 23-year-old completed the crossing in half and hour however in a test-run on Friday he did fall 80 metres before the end.

The Telethon charity program he was participating in raises money for research on rare diseases.
