Florida woman pushed mum from wheelchair

A Florida woman celebrating her 52nd birthday with family friends was arrested for allegedly pushing her elderly wheelchair-bound mother off a footpath, causing her to crash "head first into the cement", police said.

Patricia Tavernier was charged with aggravated battery on a person over the age of 65 for causing her mother to fall out of her chair, allegedly telling her it was "For 52 years of s---".

She was also charged with battery for striking her sister in the face with a camera, The Smoking Gun reports.

According to the police report, Tavernier and her sister became "drunk and upset" during the dinner, their emotions later spilling into violence in the street.

When police arrived they found "an empty wheelchair and an elderly person later identified as Karen Judge lying in the street in front of the chair in the fetal position (sic)."

Ms Judge, 73, had been staying with Tavernier while she recovered from a broken hip.

Tavernier was released on Saturday on $22,230 bond and is due to appear in court in June.
