A woman en-route to get her morning coffee was panicked by pounding on her front door, which she later discovered to be two alligators fighting in front of her home.

When Ms Geshel first saw the reptiles before 7am, one of the alligators had his snout pinned on her door while the other was stationed at a distance with its snout wide open.

The video of the encounter, which Ms Geshal posted to Facebook, shows one of the alligators clamp its jaws on the other's body and push it to the wall as it moves away from the house.

Ms Geshel can be heard calling her husband in surprise.

"They made a mess on the front door," Ms Geshel told local media.

After about 20 minutes, one of the alligators walked across the street to a neighbour's home while the other disappeared from the area.

Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission Spokeswoman Melody Kilborn said the fighting alligators were reacting to being in a confined space.

According to the wildlife agency, the reptiles tend to mate during May and June, and are most visible when the weather is warm.
