Floor cleaning machine starts giant fire at US car showroom

Thirty cars were destroyed when a janitor cleaning a Michigan auto showroom floor sparked a giant fire.

Dramatic CCTV video inside the showroom from last Tuesday's incident shows how a fireball erupted from beneath a floor buffing machine.

Other footage shows some of the firefighters from 12 units fighting the blaze at Sterling Heights,

Firefighters on top of two giant telescopic ladders sprayed water over the fire.

Stocks of paint, oil, vehicle parts and car airbags caused the fire to quickly spread and toxic smoke could be seen from about 10km away, reports Click On Detroit.

"We're hearing a lot of explosions right now," Sterling Heights Fire Chief Chris Martin said. "We're dealing with a lot of chemicals.

"There's a paint shop with a lot of paint. There's a storage of over 150 airbags that are explosive."

"It's a recipe for a mess," Martin said.

No injuries were reported and the blaze is under investigation.
