Flash floods sweep away homes in north western China

Heavy rainfall has caused flash flooding in China’s northwestern Shaanxi province, killing one man and destroying homes.

Footage filmed on Monday shows waters gushing down streets in the city of Yulin, sending two storey buildings crashing down.

Residents can be seen watching on in dismay after the fronts of their homes were swept away.

More than 71.3mm of rain fell on the city in the space of two hours, making it the heaviest rainfall the city had seen in years, Sina reports.

A 33-year-old man was killed by an electric shock while he was standing in waist high water in his front yard.

It is not yet known if the man was struck by lightning, or electrocuted by a collapsed wire from an electricity pole.
