Fitness model killed by train while filming protein shake ad

A US fitness model and actor has died after reportedly being struck by a train while filming an ad for a protein shake.

Greg Plitt, 37, was filming the ad in Los Angeles on Saturday when he was killed.

Witnesses said he was seen near train tracks with a video camera in his hand and had been filming and taking pictures with a group of friends, The Mirror reports.

"He had on all black. The train went by. I saw him stumble over the tracks. He had a camcorder in his hand," a witness told KABC News.

In 2013 Plitt filmed a fitness video which showed him doing a series of pushups on train tracks.

Plitt had appeared in the 2006 movie The Good Shepherd alongside Robert De Niro and Matt Damon, and was cast in Terminator 4 with Christian Bale.

As a model he worked for the likes of Calvin Klein and featured in more than 250 magazine covers.

A month ago Plitt posted a motivational video on Instagram asking his 60,000 followers, "Will you be remembered?"
