Father sings farewell song to newborn son
A US father who lost his partner giving birth to his son has been filmed singing a last song to his dying newborn.
Chris Picco shared video of himself singing The Beatles' song 'Blackbird' to his three-day-old son Lennon, who was rescued from mother Ashley's womb after she suddenly passed away.
In the footage, the grieving husband and new father looked on lovingly at the boy's humidifier crib as he sings the lyrics, "You were only waiting for this moment to arise".
"Ashley would often feel Lennon moving to music so I brought my guitar today and gave him a little concert. Continue to pray for a miracle for my precious, perfect little guy!" Mr Picco captioned the moment.
Baby Lennon, just 24 weeks old, died from complications only hours later.
Mr Picco confirmed the news in a statement online.
"It is with an unbelievably heavy heart that I write this. My little fighter, Lennon James Picco went to sleep in his daddy's arms late last night," he said.
"He was surrounded by family, friends, and the best doctors, nurses and hospital staff in the world.
"He was dressed in an outfit that Ashley bought for him, with little guitars on it, and wrapped in a blanket made by a dear friend.
"I am so thankful for the four unforgettable days I got to spend with him."
A memorial fund set up for Mr Picco hopes to raise $50,000 to help him pay for the medical and funeral costs of both his wife and son.
