Executed officer's last words reportedly revealed

The French officer killed outside the Charlie Hebdo office in Paris reportedly asked his attacker if he was about to kill him before he was executed.

Ahmed Merabet was injured during a firefight with two masked gunmen as they fled from the office of satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo, where 10 journalists were killed overnight.

"Do you want to kill me?" Mr Marabet asked as he lay on the pavement, The Daily Mail reports.

"OK, chief," said one of the gunmen, before shooting him dead at close range.

The horrific moment was captured on CCTV.

According to the Daily Caller, Mr Merabet was a practicing muslim and was on patrol in the area at the time of the shooting. He is survived by his wife.

The second officer was Franck Brinsolaro, a 49-year-old special protection service (SPHP) agent and tasked with protecting Charlie Hebdo's editor Stephane "Charb" Charbonnier, who was killed in the attack.

He was killed inside the building. Le Figaro reported that he leaves behind a young daughter.

Mr Charbonnier has been targeted by extremist groups over his treatment of the Prophet Mohammed and the Islamic faith. The Charlie Hebdo was previously targeted in a firebomb attack in 2004.
