An English cyclist has reignited debate about right of way after filming himself being ploughed into by a car at an intersection.

Myles Gatherer, 29, was riding in the bike lane through the London suburb of Fulham on October 14 when he approached a set of green traffic lights.

As pedestrians dawdle across the road, Mr Gatherer continues through, only to be collected by a turning car.

He flies off his bike onto the road, with his head, luckily covered by a helmet, smashing into the concrete with a loud crack.

He screams and groans on the ground, before the footage ends.

Mr Gatherer, who suffered a fractured hand as a result of the accident, told the Evening Standard he was well within his rights to continue through the intersection.

"I took the decision to manoeuvre around the pedestrians, after I cleared the pedestrians I entered the junction," he said.

"When I entered the junction it became clear that a vehicle located at the oncoming side of the road intended to move across my trajectory."

He said he was still working out insurance details with the driver, who has not been named.
