Emu runs amok on US highway
An energetic emu has been spotted running along a highway in Phoenix, Arizona. (Twitter)
A rogue emu has baffled authorities in the US, after it was spotted running along a highway oceans away from its native Australia.
Arizona Department of Agriculture officials responded to reports of the large bird crossing lanes of traffic yesterday morning (local time) on the Interstate 10, west of Phoenix.
Public information officer Quentin Mehr captured the subsequent “arrest” on camera, and posted images of the inquisitive emu poking its head into the State Trooper’s car to Twitter.
"Trooper’s kept busy," Mr Mehr captioned the images.
The road runner was lassoed and safely moved it into a trailer.
Authorities are still unsure of how the flightless bird managed to get on to the highway, and how it came to be in Arizona.
No motorists were injured during the incident.
