Video has emerged of a unicyclist's comical attempt to extinguish a blaze that was started after the electric unicycle he was riding exploded.

The video, which was reportedly posted online a year ago but only started gaining traction online after being posted to the an electric unicycling Facebook group last Wednesday, is believed to have taken place in China.

The footage, from a mounted corridor CCTV camera, shows a male unicyclist rounding a corner on linoleum flooring.

As he approaches a wall, within five seconds of entering the camera's view, the electric unicycle explodes and the man jumps off.

After struggling for 10 seconds to pull the pin on the first fire extinguisher he comes across, he discards it and then runs to find another one.

Although he is able to pull the pin on the second fire extinguisher, it appears to do little to quell the fire - with the corridor becoming so smoke-filled that nothing else but smoke can be seen by the end of the 85-second video.

On the Electric Unicycle Facebook group, user Lawrence Lin pointed out that this was common for the first release of IPS electric unicycles.

"IPS wrapped the battery pack with paper, and that caused several burning cases," Mr Law wrote.

The video has been viewed almost 100,000 times on Facebook since being shared by HKwheel last Thursday.
