Dying police dog honoured with ‘Last Call’ in heartbreaking video

A police dog in Texas has been farewelled with a traditional “Last Call”, a custom usually reserved for those who die in the line of duty, in honour of his service to the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office posted the touching video of K-9 working dog, Argo, in his final moments to their Facebook page as he succumbed to a long battle with bone cancer.

“Sheriff’s office to K-9 Argo” is repeated over the radio dispatch as the Czech German Shepherd licks his paws, surrounded by his handlers and family, who comfort him along the way.

Before, finally, “end of watch for K-9 Argo on October 10th 2015. Rest in peace, K-9 Argo.”

According to the sheriff’s office, the Narcotics Detection Dog was a “perfect example of his breed”.

“Argo was credited with taking thousands of pounds of dangerous drugs off of our streets as well as the apprehension of many dangerous felons.”

“Only after the pain became evident to his partner and the cancer was found to be all over his body and terminal, was the hard, painful, but loving decision made to end his suffering,” the office said.

The video, posted to Facebook on October 15, has already been viewed more than 390,000 times.
