Dutch man who joked about his flight going missing is now feared among dead

A Dutch man who joked on Facebook about his Malaysian Airlines flight going missing is now among the 295 feared dead after MH17 was shot down over Ukraine.

Cor Schilder posted an image of the Malaysian airplane he was boarding from Amsterdam's Schipol Airport bound for Kuala Lumpur with the joking status "If it disappears, this is what it looks like."

The post referred to missing Malaysian Airlines flight MH370, which disappeared on March 8 with 239 people on board.

The first responses to Mr Schilder's Facebook post are from friends wishing him and his girlfriend a happy holiday.

One said: "A huge beautiful holiday together and remember… we expect to see nice pictures."

And another friend posting: "Have a great vacation dude"

However, just hours later as news of the flight broke, the responses turned from well wishes to concern, with friends and family asking if anyone knew Mr Pan's flight number.

"Please – this cannot be true?!’ a friend posted.

His Facebook page has since been inundated with tributes and his post has since been shared almost 9,000 times.

Another young man, who also lives in Holland, posted a picture of his ticket with the phrase "I'm so excited" before boarding. 

Instagram user Regis Crolla posted the picture before the accident along with the words "AMS -> Kuala Lumpur -> Bali" suggesting he was travelling from Amsterdam to Bali. 

At the time of writing almost 8000 people had left comments of support on the young man's profile.

"Godspeed. Rest in peace," one says. "One day you are your parents, friends and family back together but then forever," reads another. 

The full passenger list has yet to be published but initial reports suggest 154 Dutch, 23 Malaysians, 11 Indonesians, 6 Britons, and 4 Germans were on board the flight, as well as 27 Australians.
