Drivers learn costly lesson after parking on beach at low tide

Three cars worth nearly $180,000 have been claimed by the sea after drivers parked on a UK beach at low tide.

The first victim was a Honda SUV on Friday night at the popular tourist spot Brean Beach.

The London owner told local media he was unaware of the dangers of parking on the muddy stretch, which is experiencing unusually high tides at the moment.

His obliviousness was shared by two more drivers in the next 24 hours who both drove considerably more luxurious cars.

Only the roof and raised boot of an Audi A5 could be seen poking above the sea on Saturday.

Rescue crews were called about 7.30pm and used a hovercraft to free the sedan from its briny prison.

Only moments later the hovercraft was needed once again, this time for a BMW SUV.

The driver was a tourist from Berlin, Germany who didn't even own the car.

"It's a company car and I'm due to drive it back to Germany on Monday so I don't know what I will do," she told Burnham-on-sea.com.
