US vice president Kamala Harris is kicking her presidential campaign up a notch as she works to earn the Democratic Party's nomination and gain a lead over former president Donald Trump.
If Harris is successful in her bid for the top job, she will make history as the country's first female, Black and Asian president.
The man by her side, husband Douglas Emhoff, could also make history in a supporting role as the inaugural first gentleman.

Emhoff has been the partner of Harris for more than a decade but public interest in him has grown as the vice president's career has progressed.
So who is the man who will be supporting Harris in the race to the White House?
How did Kamala Harris meet Doug Emhoff?
Then-Attorney General of California Kamala Harris and Los Angeles entertainment lawyer Douglas Emhoff were set up on a blind date by Harris' best friend Chrisette Hudlin back in 2013.
It all started when Hudlin met Emhoff in 2013 for legal advice and was "impressed" with him.
Emhoff was on board with the suggestion and didn't play the waiting game.
He sent Harris a text message the same day that the friend suggested they be set up and the two soon spoke over the phone.

The pair met for their first date and the two married in 2014 after a whirlwind year-long romance.
Emhoff later confirmed how the pair met in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter.
"Blind date, love at first sight, marriage, family, and an incredible life together," he wrote.
"Through it all, no matter what, she is always there for me and our family without hesitation."
What does Douglas Emhoff do for a living?
Emhoff and Harris share a mutual interest in law and justice.
The vice president's husband is an entertainment lawyer and a visiting fellow at Georgetown University's law centre in Washington DC.
He began his career at US litigation group Pillsbury Winthrop before he moved to boutique firm Belin Rawlings and Badal in the late 1990s.

He opened his own law firm in 2000, which was later bought by law firm Venable LLP in 2006.
Emhoff represented a range of clients including retail corporation Walmart and eventually became the managing director of the Venable's West Coast offices.
He later joined another law firm, DLA Piper, based in Washington and California.
Emhoff took a leave of absence from his role when Harris was announced as Joe Biden's running mate in the 2020 US presidential election.
Then when Joe Biden won the election, Emhoff permanently left the law firm to avoid concerns about conflicts of interest.

Douglas Emhoff's first wife is film producer Kerstin Emhoff (nee Mackin).
She is the co-founder and CEO of production company Prettybird and the CEO of creative studio Ventureland.

Emhoff has a 29-year-old son named Cole and a 25-year-old daughter named Ella.
