Donald Trump has always prided himself on being a savvy media operator, but a television ad made by his campaign aimed at Indian voters is anything but slick.

A jarringly-edited 30-second ad splices together footage of Trump talking about radical Islamic terrorism, photos of the 2008 Mumbai attacks and a greeting to mark Diwali, a major Hindu festival.

It also features Trump speaking in Hindi, borrowing a slogan from current Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

"Ab ki baar Trump sarkar," Trump says.

The phrase translates as "This time a Trump government".

The ad was created by Trump's Indian-American Advisory Committee and is now running about 20 times a day on channels aimed at Indian-Americans.

Committee chairman Shalli Kumar said it took about 15 times for Trump to master the Hindi sentence.

Getting the votes of Indian-Americans is a tough ask for Trump. The ethnic group are the second-most Democratic leaning racial demographic in America, giving Barack Obama 84 percent of the vote in 2008.

The election is now less than two weeks away.
