Swimming with dolphins tops many bucket lists – but for this guy, the experience was one he might rather forget.

Bernard Le Roux was competing at the Vintners Surf Classic in Jongensfontein, South Africa, on Friday when a playful pod knocked the paddleboarder clean off his feet, costing him a place on the winners' podium.

Amateur footage shows the mammals approaching at a rapid pace.

One of them appears to target Le Roux, flipping his board and sending him tumbling into the water.

Adruaab Oelofse, who filmed the incident, is then overheard roaring with laughter as fellow onlookers cheer.

The video was uploaded to YouTube on Wednesday and has clocked more than 100,000 views.
