Deaf girl uses sign language to command her dog

Video has shown a deaf California girl’s remarkable bond with her deaf dog, winning hearts around the world.

The video, posted to the Pasadena Humane Society & SPCA Facebook page on June 28, has since been viewed hundreds of thousands of times.

It shows a girl identified as ‘Julia’ playing with her dog Walter, both of whom were born deaf.

Julia is also shown instructing Walter via sign language to “sit”, drink “water” and “eat”.

"I love Walter," she signed to ABC US.

"Walter is my best friend."

Walter was found abandoned with his litter mates at just six weeks old and placed in the care of a local shelter.

Julia’s mother can be heard explaining in the video her thoughts during their first encounter with the future pet.

"I remember just looking at him [at the shelter], and I just knew that he was meant to be ours," she said.

Pasadena Humane Society & SPCA spokeswoman Jamie Holeman said he hopes the video will remind people that “there’s always someone out there for everyone”.
