Dashcam captures cop ramming car into ex-wife's house

US officials have released video showing a Florida police officer ramming his patrol car into his ex-wife's home.

The video was made public this week by the Florida State Attorney's Office and shows Escambia County deputy Timothy Taylor reversing the police car out of the driveway of a small home last November.

A woman is seen standing at the front door but it is unclear whether the woman is his ex-wife.

While reversing, the vehicle stops to point in the direction of the front door and the woman walks inside. After giving way to a vehicle on the road, the deputy accelerates at full speed toward the house, slamming into the front door and destroying the exterior of the home. The woman was not injured.

Deputy Taylor, 57, resigned and pleaded no contest to a DUI charge and criminal mischief charges after the incident.

He had stabbed himself before the crash in a suicide attempt because of marital problems and was under the influence of prescription drugs at the time, according to local station WEAR TV.

He was fined more than $13,000 for the damage to the police vehicle and $59,000 for the damage to the house and was sentenced to two years probation.
