A US father has called in the big guns to help pull his son's loose tooth – tying it to a helicopter and then flying it away.

A video posted by helicopter pilot Rick Rahim shows his son nervously jumping with a red string tied around his tooth, and then cuts to Mr Rahim giving him the thumbs up from a helicopter.

The helicopter then hovers backwards into the air, and the string tenses.

Mr Rahim can then be seen holding the string attached to the loose tooth, as his son touches his bare gum.

Mr Rahim then explains the safety precautions he took, and said it was a fun experience for all involved.

"Safety first, and I'm the true helicopter dad, and that's the true helicopter son who lost a tooth today, via a helicopter," he says.

"Look, guys, do everything safely and that's what I did today, I flew the helicopter backwards away from all the human beings, and you'll notice we had plenty of room on the left and on the right, should there have been any sort of emergency.

"I want you to know that what we did today was perfectly fun, perfectly safe, and I’m a 13-year veteran of flying helicopters with over a 1000 hours.

"So whatever you do in life, make sure that your kids have much, much more fun than you ever did as a kid, that's what it's all about."
