A UK woman who tested positive for COVID-19 has died just eight days after giving birth.

Salina Shaw, from Essex, northeast of London, was pregnant with her third child when she tested positive for the virus.

The 37-year-old also had diabetes and gave birth to a baby girl on April 7.

Ms Shaw was a childcare worker in Southend and lived a healthy vegan lifestyle according to her partner.

"From this utter sorrow, everyone should know that this lady was a force to be reckoned with, a powerful single mum, with fire in her belly and determination that you would never have seen in anyone," her cousin wrote in a Facebook tribute.

Ms Shaw's death on Easter Sunday comes after a similar incident where a heavily pregnant nurse also died on Easter Sunday from COVID-19 complications.

Mary Agyeiwaa Agyapong's baby was delivered via C-section but she died during the birth.

According to the World Health Organisation, the UK death toll from COVID-19 has exceeded 16,060, with more than 120,000 confirmed cases.
