New York commuters survive subway breakdown with impromptu hip hop singalong

Commuters trapped on a New York subway that stalled in rush hour on Wednesday kept their cool by singing hip hop songs together.

The E train had just passed the Lexington Avenue station when the electric-current collector failed, stalling the train completely, the New York Post reports.

More than 850 passengers on board, most of whom would have been on their way to work, were trapped in the underground cars.

It took more than two hours for a rescue train to arrive – but in the meantime, one car of commuters decided to distract themselves with song.

One commuter pulled out his phone and began improvising his own lyrics to popular Drake songs about how late he was going to be to work.

A video of the spontaneous singalong was later uploaded to YouTube by commuter Greg Wong and has since been viewed more than 20,000 times.
