Commuters use people power to lift train off pensioner

Commuters in Russia have been filmed working together to lift a train off an elderly woman.

The 70-year-old woman fell into the gap as she stepped off the subway train on Moscow Metro's Kalinin-Solntsevo line on Saturday, lifenews.ru reports.

With her leg firmly wedged between the platform and carriage, she was unable to get out and was stuck there for some time.

Scores of passengers, together with staff at Marxist Station, managed to tilt the carriage so that the pensioner could eventually be freed.

Video shows the group, numbered in the dozens, heaving the heavy carriage as a man called out instructions.

The woman was taken to hospital and treated for leg injuries, according to a police source.

The footage echoed scenes captured on August 6 when scores of passengers came to the aid of a Perth man trapped between a train and platform.

The man later told 9News he was unaware of just how many people volunteered to help free him and praised their actions.
