Commuters defy expectations when given opportunity to take free money

Commuters at a Los Angeles train station have behaved surprisingly when prompted by a “cash board” which asked people to give what they could and take what they need.

The results surprised the project organisers after more people pinned cash onto the board then took it.

The board was set up at Union Station with five, ten to twenty dollar bills attached to it and a sign that read, “Give What You Can, Take What You Need”.

Project operator Tyler Bridges told The Huffington Post those who gave the most seemed the happiest.

“There’s a certain feeling that giving can do for you, and that was definitely apparent in those that gave the most,” he said.

He said the project was not a marketing stunt or ad campaign.

“We just wanted to encourage the people and remind them to share the love.”

The last shot of the board showed a single note on the 'Give What You Can' side.
