China's ambitious plan to relocate a century old building

Workers are preparing to save a 100-year-old Chinese building earmarked for demolition by rolling it 91m down the road.

The historic three-storey red brick building in Wuhan, central China was once used a fire station, People's Daily Online reports.

Due to the sale of land surrounding the building, the local government came up with an ambitious plan to relocate the structure rather than demolish it.

To prepare for the delicate move, scaffolding has been placed around the building's façade and parallel transport rails have been built to slide the structure to it new destination.

A concrete base reinforced with steel has also been fitted to maintain the building's structural integrity.

While the structure has already been lifted over metre off the ground, it is unknown when transportation will commence.
