Bodycam shows cop revive drowned toddler

Newly released vision shot from a US police officer's bodycam shows the frenzied moments the cop resuscitated a toddler who had fallen into a pool and passed out.

The incident occurred in Cleveland, Ohio on June 17 when a two-year-old boy named Drances snuck past his aunt Cynthia Connor and fell into the backyard pool, Fox8 reports.

Ms Connor was in the frontyard of her home talking to police officers who arrived after a passing car damaged her fence.

Drances was found in the pool by a relative who screamed for help.

When his aunt and the two police officers reached the boy he was "purple" and "lifeless", Ms Connor said.

"When they picked him up – he had no, nothing. He was, like shaking; his lips were shaking. It’s something I’m never gonna forget, like, sometimes I just wake up thinking about it," she said.

The cops already on the scene called for back-up and that's when Patrolman Ismael Quintana arrived on the scene and immediately sprung into action.

"He just went in there," Ms Connor said.

"He took control. He said, I'll do the compressions and you breath, then we did a teamwork and that's when EMS showed up. Just talking about it gives me goose bumps."

Video shot by a camera mounted on the officer's chest shows him pumping away furiously with the boy's aunt until Drances regains consciousness.

"Honestly, I’ve been a police officer for eight years,” said Patrolman Quintana.

"I’ve seen some pretty serious stuff – living in the city – being a police officer in the city – that's probably been the only time that I've ever been scared."

The two-year-old was taken to hospital but was released a few days later.

Ms Connor said she is grateful for the officer's heroic intervention.

"What if he wasn't here? You know, if it wasn’t for you, what if I couldn't have did it all by myself?," she said.
